Maggie Stiefvater All of my life decisions have been based around my inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you're a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which I've tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists, musicians, and artists (I've made my living as one of these since I was 22).

I now live an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia, with my charmingly straight-laced husband, two small kids, two neurotic dogs, one criminally insane cat, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

I'm an avid reader, an award-winning colored pencil artist, and play several musical instruments, including the Celtic harp, the piano, and the bagpipes. I also make great cocktail party conversation.

Email

I love to hear from readers! I read every email I get—which is over four thousand a month, as of last month—but because of the vast piles of them, I'm afraid I have to revamp my e-mail policy. Otherwise I spend more time working on e-mails than on writing the next book, which makes nobody happy, trust me.

But I don't want to go the way that a lot of authors have had to—that is, stop replying to e-mails entirely. So my new e-mail policy is this: I'll no longer respond to or forward inappropriately directed e-mails, so make sure your e-mail goes to the right e-mail address!

Also, this: I cannot answer questions in e-mails.

I know, I know, but it's just impossible to keep on the way I have. If you have a question, check out the FAQ to see if your question has been answered. I've done a lot of interviews online too, so google might give you what you're looking for. If you absolutely, positively, CANNOT find an answer to your question and are convinced you must have the answer, type POSSIBLE FAQ INCLUSION in your e-mail's subject line and put ONLY the question in that e-mail's body. If I add the question to the FAQ, I'll e-mail you back to let you know the answer's online.

A few other things I just can't do (no exceptions): read any unpublished writing, answer writing-related questions, or comment on casting choices for Sam and Grace (I really, really swear I have no part in this, okay? Honest. I would not deceive you). Here's the part where I direct you toward my blog and say that it's the best place to find out news about the books as it happens, hear me talk about my writing process, and find out what I'm up to.

I really appreciate all of my readers and hope to stay in touch with you guys as much as I can. I really would love to keep replying to everyone personally, so thanks for the help in making this possible!

Also, this: I am fluent in text speak and can swing a pretty mean chat conversation, but I prefer not to read reader e-mail that sounds like excerpts from I Can Haz Cheeseburger. K plz? Plain English.

And with that:
